Workforce Solutions for South Texas
Workforce Solutions for South Texas is a local organization focused on increasing our community’s economic development by providing resources for employers and employees. Our goals include building our area workforce and training individuals to be successfully employed.
The 2026 Externships for Teachers Program concluded on June 12, marking the successful completion of two weeks of hands-on learning for 33 educators from LISD, UISD, JHCISD, and Laredo College. Participants gained valuable experience at 30 worksites across Laredo, exploring high-demand industries including logistics, healthcare, medical services, and social services while engaging directly with local employers and workforce professionals.
The experience provided teachers with real-world industry insights they can bring back to their classrooms, helping students better understand career opportunities and workforce expectations. Each participant will receive a $2,000 stipend and classroom supplies to support student learning.
Originally launched in Laredo, the Externships for Teachers program has since expanded across Texas, serving as a successful model for connecting education and industry. Thank you to our teachers, employer partners, school districts, and community stakeholders for making this year’s program a success.
