Re-Routing to Success

On August 12, 2024, Mr. Urbano Hernández visited Workforce Solutions for South Texas (WSST) to inquire about the High School Equivalency (GED) program.

When assisted by Mr. Guillermo Bermudez, Instructor, Mr. Hernández mentioned that he works as a bus driver for the City of Laredo’s El Metro Transit. He stated that his goal is to apply for a higher position, specifically as a trainer for new bus drivers within the company.

Mr. Hernández shared that he had attempted to take the GED tests twice before but never had the opportunity to complete the program. The main reason was that the previous programs he enrolled in were in-person, and his work schedule conflicted with class times, leaving him no choice but to withdraw.

When he learned that the GED program at WSST was online, he decided to inquire further. That same day, August 12, 2024, Mr. Hernández enrolled in the program. Thanks to the online format available through the Aztec Learning System, he was able to continue his studies. He would visit the workforce center on his days off and also study at home. With the support of his wife, Mr. Hernández achieved his goal on January 28, 2025.

Mr. Hernández previously obtained a bachelor’s degree in business administration in México. Now, with the attainment of his GED, he is prepared to pursue new job opportunities within El Metro Transit.
