TWC Recognizes Workforce Solutions for South Texas for Child Care Employment Connections

AUSTIN – The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded $50,000 to Workforce Solutions for South Texas through a Child Care Employment Connections Award. This performance-based award recognizes local workforce development boards (Boards) for their work in connecting at-risk parents with sufficient employment.

Workforce Solutions for South Texas is committed to its mission to focus on increasing our community’s economic development by providing resources and connecting job seekers and employers,” said Rogelio Trevino, Executive Director at Workforce Solutions for South Texas. “Our goals include preparing our area workforce and training individuals to meet the needs of local employers and become successfully employed in meaningful jobs. We will continue to help all of our clients to ensure they are employed in meaningful employment.”

The Child Care Employment Connections Awards recognize Boards that were the most successful in helping make employment connections for unemployed parents whose children are receiving childcare assistance.

This award will provide additional funding to expand or improve the quality of childcare services in the region. Only two other Boards in the state also received the award: Workforce Solutions Rural Capital and Workforce Solutions Capital Area.

TWC’s Child Care Services program provides eligible parents with up to three months of child care assistance while looking for a job. Parents who find sufficient employment can receive childcare benefits for a full year.

In Texas, 28 Boards operate more than 170 local Workforce Solutions offices. In addition to administering child care services, local offices aim to place people in jobs and equip workers with skills that foster economic development. Local offices also help employers recruit, hire, and retain qualified workers.
