LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) – Laredo’s unemployment rate is just 4%, showing a strong job market as employers ramp up hiring for the holiday season.

Employers throughout the city are seeking to fill seasonal roles, including retail and warehouse jobs. However, they need to hire quickly to meet seasonal demands.

When asked about the troubles that come with finding a job, one person seeking employment, Carlos Lopez, mentioned, “Mostly experience nowadays, everyone wants to have someone with hands-on experience. They don’t want just a college degree, they want someone who has done everything that’s listed on the requirements.”

For many, securing a job isn’t always easy, that’s where Workforce Solutions, an organization dedicated to connecting job seekers with employers, is stepping in.

According to the Executive Director, Rogelio Trevino, “Our workforce centers around our staff and team that we have here. They’re highly trained and able to help people prepare themselves for the different types of jobs that there are.“

On Thursday, November 14, Workforce Solutions hosted their annual Red White and You Job Fair focusing on veterans but was open to the public.

Trevino adds that after the pandemic, people got used to working remotely, but now, companies want to have employees on-site.

He [Trevino] mentioned, “A lot of it deals with customer service many times, and you have to be able to deal with individuals one-on-one so employers are looking for that.”

As for Lopez, he adds that employers should be willing to work with qualified individuals and help them get experience from it.

Noting, “I’m not saying that they are willing to offer high pay or anything like that. They should start small, everything is a learning experience.“

As for Workforce Solutions, they continue to host events and urge people to visit their office to see what jobs are available in the community.

Interested persons can go to the office located at 1406 Jacaman Rd. Suite A, or call (956) 794-6500.
